-------------------------------------------
Author: Staff Writer

New trail rules and regulations have just been adopted for the High Peaks Region. Temporary rules put in place last year have now been adopted.

The new rules

  • Dogs must be kept on leashes -- on marked trail, and at campsites and at elevations above 4000ft.
  • No camping is allowed above 4000 ft.
  • Camping is allowed only at designated campsites only between elevations of 3500 and 4000 feet.
  • No overnight camping is allowed above 4000 ft.
  • Glass containers are prohibited throughout the High Peaks area.
  • Campfires are prohibited in the Eastern High Peaks Zone (from the eastern front of the High Peaks to west of the Indian Pass Trail.) Cook stoves are required for cooking.
  • New limits on large groups, including a limit of 8 persons for 3 consecutive nights at lean tos.
