Iron & The Vegan Diet
Most Vegans do not have a higher incidence of iron deficiency than non-vegetarians. It takes a very small amount of planning to incorporate the necessary daily amount of iron. As long as you eat a diet rich in dark, leafy legumes, you will have satisfied the iron intake. Really, it will only take the same planning that you would need to have a healthy meat -eating diet. There Are Fats, and Then There Are Fats
Nutrition fads come and go. For a long time, dieters were counting calories. Then attention shifted to fats. Now more nutritionists say that we have to pay attention to both. These changes are the result of improved understanding of the health impact that foods and food components have, including the essential roles of fats and individual fatty acids in the diet. Is the fountain of youth calorie restriction?
Proving that you can sometimes have good things come of failures, the basic failure of Biosphere 2 and the unintended "experiment" on severly reducing caloric intake in humans and animals lead to Dr. Walford's development of a theory linking low calorie, but nutrient dense nutrition with longevity. However, experts express some concern over pregnant women eating larger fish that may contain higher levels of methylmercury. The suggestion is that pregnant women eat smaller fish (i.e. canned) that have had less time to reach a higher concentration level. Go >>

Visit Dr. Walford
Looking at Dr. Walford's recipies actually made stomachs growl around here. While he preaches calorie reduction, he isn't really insisting that you reduce the amount of food you eat. Only the type! His recipies pack the most nutrients into the fewest calories with maximum bulk to make your stomach feel full. Even if you don't want to commit to his way of life, you might like to try out a couple of his dishes. Go >>

Travelling with vegetarian children
Travelling with children offers its own special challenge. Add vegetarian dietary considerations and a cranky and hungry 3 year old and you can imagine the potential fireworks. Planning ahead by following these tips should smooth out the bumps. It won't fix the air turbulance, but it will the tummy growling. Go >>

Is Uncle Sam a good cook?
You can download an entire cookbook (PDF format) courtesy of the US Government. Advertising "Healthy, Thifty Meals", this cookbook is more than just recipies. It is also full of tips on budgeting, safe food practices and meal planning. It is curious that they didn't include "Tasty" in the title. Go >>
